Morrill Fire in Western Nebraska Ongoing, as Fire Crews from Lincoln and Surrounding Region Help in Fight

OGALLALA–(KFOR Mar. 16)–The Morrill County Fire has now burned over 570,000 acres of land in western Nebraska with zero containment and state officials have called on fire departments from across the state to respond in the fight.

The Morrill County Fire goes from north of Nebraska Highway 82 from Lake McConaughy to Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, charring about 572,000 acres and making it the largest wildfire in Nebraska history and among the top 30 largest in U.S. history. On Saturday, Gov. Jim Pillen said the fire was caused by an electrical fire sparked by high winds. A utility pole was knocked down and a wire sparked the blaze.

One person has died as a result of this fire — 86-year-old Rose White of Arthur. Pillen said Saturday she died while trying to escape the fire…
