Nebraska to move juvenile inmates from Omaha facility to Lincoln in cost-cutting measure

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) said Wednesday that the youth population housed at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) in Omaha will soon be moved.

NDCS told 10/11 Now that 46 inmates, 18 of whom are younger than 18 years old, are currently housed at NCYF.

The 18 juveniles will be transferred to a housing unit at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC) with “sight and sound separation” from the rest of the facility’s population. It’s unclear whether the remaining 28 inmates will be moved; and if so, where they might be housed instead…
