UNL, Lincoln Fire and Rescue host fire safety training

As the alarm sounded and a fog machine filled the third-floor hall, students quickly dropped and crawled towards the first floor.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue hosted fire safety awareness and educational sessions on Friday, giving students hands-on experience with emergencies.

The event was hosted by ASUN Sen. Mason Ain, a sophomore political science major who wrote the bill sponsoring the event. The training aimed to improve students’ situational awareness during fire emergencies both through instruction and realistic simulation.

The event consisted of a series of identical sessions that lasted through the afternoon, each beginning with a brief educational overview before participants transitioned to a room where two Lincoln firefighters gave a short lecture and provided information about the precautions that need to be taken in real-life fire situations.
