Lincoln council approves sober living home expansion under fair housing law

LINCOLN, NEB — The City Council on Monday approved a resolution allowing a local recovery home to expand its capacity.

Resolution 26R-147 applies to Oxford House Hansen Manor near 12th and E Street. The council granted a “reasonable accommodation” under the Fair Housing Act, allowing up to eight unrelated people in recovery to live together, up from the usual limit of three. Parking requirements were also waived.

City leaders said the change ensures equal housing opportunities for people in recovery, who are protected under federal law. The Planning Commission previously recommended approval in a unanimous vote…
