Arkansas Department of Human Services officials said Monday that recipients of summer nutrition assistance benefits need to change the PINs on their cards due to benefit thefts.
The department said in a news release it was unsure how the thieves were taking the benefits, which were loaded onto cards. The department said it identified transactions in several northeastern states such as New York and New Jersey that it believed were “likely to be fraudulent.”
Gavin Lesnick, the spokesperson for the department, said in an email that the department began receiving reports of the thefts shortly after funds were loaded on cards on May 26. More than 200 people have reported thefts to the department since then, he said…
