Multiple inches of rain possible in Arkansas

ARKANSAS — A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of Arkansas on Sunday as forecasters warn that heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding and rising waterways across several counties.

The National Weather Service said excessive rainfall may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas through late Sunday night.

In northwest Arkansas, the Flood Watch includes Benton, Carroll, Washington, Madison, Crawford, Franklin and Sebastian counties. Forecasters said multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day, with localized rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches possible.

Additional Flood Watches have been issued for parts of western Arkansas, including Johnson, Logan, Scott and Polk counties. Meteorologists said those areas have already received 3 to 4 inches of rain during the past 24 hours, increasing the risk of flash flooding if more heavy rain develops…
