1839 — Caroline lynched in Washington County. Caroline, an enslaved Black woman, was hanged at Cane Hill after a sham “trial” with no lawful court proceeding.

1904 — Mart Vowell executed at Paragould. Former Rector city marshal Mart Vowell was hanged for murder after Gov. Jeff Davis refused clemency. About 2,000 people reportedly came to Paragould for the execution…
