Mark Pryor never dreamed of holding public office, which is a strange thing to hear from the mouth of a former member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, former state attorney general and former two-term member of the United States Senate. In fact, coming from the son of one of Arkansas’ most prolific and beloved career politicians, the comment is shocking to the point of heresy. Yet as Pryor will tell you, that is precisely the truth of the matter.
“When I was growing up as a small kid, I just grew up around politics, literally,” he said. “It was wonderful, and it was amazing, but I’m not sure that I thought, ‘Hey, I’m going to do politics,’ except how a lot of people just assume they’ll grow up and want to do what their dad does or do what their mom does.
“At some point between college and law school, I came to a realization that, look, I love my dad. I’m so proud of everything he’s accomplished, and I love everything he stands for, but politics is his dream. It’s not my dream.”…
