Alexander Gallery opens new exhibit on Arkansas rock and roll legend Levon Helm

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — KNWA/FOX24 got a sneak peek of a new art installation coming to the Porter Art Warehouse.

The new exhibit, titled This Wheel’s Still On Fire: The Legacy of Levon Helm, honors the Arkansas native rock-and-roll legend and drummer for The Band through personal photographs, instruments, tour memorabilia and interviews from musicians who knew Helm, including Bruce Springsteen.

The exhibit’s curator spoke about why bringing this to the Natural State was so important.

“When you think about Americana bands, the first one was the band,” Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame Curator Deana McCloud said. “And the only one who’s American is Levon. The others are Canadian. Not that that’s a bad thing, but that means, though, that all roads for Americana music lead back to Arkansas. So having it here in Arkansas was a definite goal whenever we started curating this.”…
