ARKANSAS — Dangerous heat continues across Arkansas Friday, with conditions essentially unchanged from the past two days. Heat index values will push over 100 degrees for most locations statewide, with the hottest spots reaching as high as 108 degrees by mid-afternoon. Very warm and humid conditions will dominate, with only a low chance for a few showers or storms during the afternoon hours. More low-end rain and storm chances are expected Saturday as well.
Searcy and Russellville Lead the State in Peak Heat Index
The highest heat index readings by 4:30 p.m. Friday are expected in Searcy at 108 degrees, with Russellville close behind at 107 degrees. Jonesboro and Batesville will also see dangerous levels near 105 to 106 degrees.
These readings place north central and northeast Arkansas at the greatest risk for heat-related illness during peak afternoon hours.
Central Arkansas Sees Widespread Triple-Digit Heat Index Values
Little Rock, Stuttgart and Helena are all forecast to reach a heat index of 105 degrees Friday afternoon. Monticello will see similar conditions at 105 degrees, while Pine Bluff and Lake Village follow closely behind in the low 100s.
Camden, Arkadelphia and El Dorado will also reach the century mark, keeping much of central and southern Arkansas under oppressive heat through the afternoon.
Fayetteville and the Northwest Corner See Slightly Lower Readings
