16 cases of cyclosporiasis reported in Arkansas; expert warns about vegetables, dehydration risk

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The Arkansas Department of Health has reported 16 cases of cyclosporiasis — a parasite that causes explosive diarrhea — as a nationwide outbreak continues to spread across 34 states.

Dr. Shane Speights, dean of NYIT’s School of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, said the infection has reached a significant scale.
