1862 — Union troops began withdrawing from Clarendon. During the Civil War’s Clarendon Expedition, Brig. Gen. Alvin P. Hovey considered advancing toward Little Rock but instead began marching his Union force back toward Helena on August 13. The August 4–17 operation secured Clarendon as an important White River port and Federal supply point; three Union soldiers were killed and two wounded during the expedition.
1888 — Waldo was incorporated. The Columbia County railroad and lumber town of Waldo was formally incorporated on August 13, 1888.
