Friday, August 21, another hot day is in store with heat advisories and extreme heat warnings in place across central and southern Arkansas. Little Rock is forecast to reach at least 100 degrees this afternoon, which would be Little Rock’s 10th consecutive day reaching at least 100 degrees.
There’s a small chance of a stray shower or storm Friday afternoon and evening in central and northern Arkansas, but most will be rain-free. Showers and storms continue this morning into midday in southwestern Arkansas, where one or two storms could be strong to severe in far southwestern Arkansas. However, since showers and storms have been ongoing in that area since early Friday, the severe risk is dropping.
Saturday, August 22, another hot day is in store. Even if communities don’t reach 100 degrees in the afternoon, heat safety precautions are still encouraged. But also on Saturday, scattered storms are possible in the afternoon and evening. Some are likely to be strong to severe.
The storm risk on Saturday is mainly in the afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts are the main hazard, but all modes of severe weather would be possible with the strongest storms. It’s recommended to have multiple ways to receive warning information for your location on Saturday.
Even with rain and storm chances around, the wildfire risk remains high. Wildfire safety precautions should be taken. Only 6 counties, as of midday on Friday, are NOT under a burn ban, although the entire state should act as if it’s statewide.
