LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Zelda, the Little Rock Zoo’s longtime miniature horse resident, has died at age 27.
Zoo officials announced on social media that Zelda died after the acute onset of gastrointestinal issues.
Zelda arrived at the Little Rock Zoo in March 2000 alongside fellow miniature horse Zinnamon and a miniature donkey named Zipper.

According to zoo officials, Zelda was known for her unique personality and playful spirit.
“Zelda was such a playful girl. She loved playing chase in the exhibit yards. I would get the girls all wound up by running around with them and acting like I was going to get them, and Zelda would always play along, running around as fast as she could,” keeper Jessica L. said. “She was always the first to bust open a cardboard treat box and would usually hog it all from the rest of the equines. I’m going to miss her whinny when she was ready for food and saw her keepers coming to the barn.”…
