SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Department of Transportation cut the ribbon Friday on two new roads: a stretch of Interstate 42 and a direct connector to Northwest Arkansas National Airport.
Cutting the commute
The first road is part of the Springdale Bypass, now called Interstate 42. It routes drivers around Tontitown instead of requiring them to use U.S. Highway 412, which contains numerous traffic signals.
ARDOT Executive Director Jared Wiley says that will save commuters real time.
“Based on the math I’m seeing, we’ll save commuters about an hour a week, the ones that are driving through Tontitown,” Wiley said. “Most of our projects don’t save that much time. This is a big deal for travelers in the region.”
