Arkansas mother’s rare kidney-heart transplant canceled after organ deemed not viable

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — An Arkansas mother who was approved for a rare kidney and heart transplant got the call she had been waiting for, only to have the procedure canceled days later.

Brittany Slater, 31, of Little Rock, has been living with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, or FSGS, since she was 18. The disease has caused permanent kidney damage, and she is also battling heart failure.
