Friday, September 18, through the weekend ahead, above-average heat pushes onward. Each day, including Friday, has the potential to break record highs in Little Rock. One of these records was set in 1925.
Expect mostly sunny skies Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a calm, southerly wind. Rain chances are slim to none, even in the afternoons, with the heat of the day. This is due to drier air in place through most of Sunday over the majority of Arkansas.
The Friday night high school football is hot and mainly clear. A calm south/southeasterly wind is likely through the games. Heat safety should remain a priority.
Extreme wildfire danger is expected all weekend. It only takes one spark, so continue to practice wildfire safety. If you see smoke, report it quickly.
By Sunday evening, a chance of showers and storms pushes in ahead of our next system in northern Arkansas. Most are rain-free until Monday.
Change is on the way with a cool front next week.
While temperatures behind the front will still be above normal for this time of year (our average high is 85 degrees in Little Rock in mid-September), it’ll be noticeably less hot.
Showers and storms associated with the front unfortunately won’t bring a ton of rain, though. Some scattered showers and storms are possible, especially on Monday, but not everyone will experience rain.
