The infamous cool front is finally approaching Arkansas. In the next few days, this front won’t bring a ton of rain chances, but it will bring temperature changes by midweek.
Sunday evening, September 20, into early Monday morning, September 21, as the front approaches from the west, there’s a small chance of showers and storms in far western and northwest Arkansas. One or two of these storms could be strong to severe, mainly for damaging wind gusts.
Monday, small rain chances will spread over most of the state. But not everyone will experience rain or storms. A few showers and storms are possible through Monday, especially in the afternoon and evening. One or two may be strong to severe, again, mainly for damaging wind gusts and hail.
Highs will still be in the mid to upper 90s on Monday afternoon in central and southern Arkansas. But in northern Arkansas, highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s.
The front moves through Monday into Tuesday statewide. A small chance of a stray shower still exists Tuesday, mainly in southern Arkansas, but it’s very slim. Highs will be noticeably less hot on Tuesday for many, then noticeably less hot for the entire state by Wednesday. However, it won’t feel like pumpkins and fall leaves behind this front. Highs will still be above average for this time of year by a couple of degrees.
Without a ton of rain, the high wildfire danger persists. It may return to extreme levels by late in the week and into the following weekend. Continue to practice wildfire safety precautions.
