Arkansas Police Follow Drag Marks to Smoking Burn Pit. Three Plead Not Guilty in $35K Cable Damage Case

A trail of drag marks beside cut telecommunications cables led Arkansas police into the woods, where officers found a smoking burn pit, exposed wiring and tools used for cutting metal. The investigation resulted in three arrests and two citations.

The equipment belonged to Brightspeed, which estimated approximately $35,000 in damage to its telecommunications cable and a utility pole near South First Street in Jacksonville. Police encountered five people at a nearby makeshift campsite during the October 8, 2026, investigation.
