Lawmakers honor Arkansas State Police trooper who helped stranded motorist during ice storm

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – From the fog, snow, rain, and arctic temperatures, the recent harsh weather has been a challenge to adjust to. With a week of below-freezing temps, stepping outside was difficult.

One man found himself stuck outside on the side of the road for hours after his car ran out of gas.

“I need some help.” – Arkansas State Police trooper shows selflessness for stranded motorist on freezing night

Thanks to the kindness of Arkansas State Police Trooper Brandon Bird, that man was able to find warmth.

On Saturday, Jan. 20, Bird said he noticed a car on the side of the road on Interstate 40 headed toward Russellville.

He figured it was abandoned but hours after first noticing the car, his instincts told him to just go check. When he did, he found a man that was in need.

The interaction with the man was captured on video from Trooper Bird’s patrol dash camera.
“I’m Trooper Bird with state police. Is there anything I can do to help you,” Bird asked in the video.

“Even with complete strangers, you’ve got to have a servant’s heart,” Bird said on Friday after he was recognized for his service.
