Champion for peace and equality, Arkansas activist Jean Gordon, dies at 97

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) – Jean Gordon, an Arkansas activist who dedicated her life to promoting peace and equality, died Thursday. She was 97. Gordon first came on the scene in the late 1950’s as a member of the Women’s Emergency Committee which organized women to campaign for the reopening of Little Rock’s public schools after they had been closed by Gov. Orval Faubus in an effort to stop integration.
