Saturday, February 9: Cooler today with snow on the way

It’s a shame after a week of warm and sunny conditions, this weekend will bring cooler and cloudier weather. We’ve gotten used to seeing our thermometers challenge the 70-degree mark, today we will be lucky to hit 50 degrees.

Expect to see mostly cloudy conditions with a Northeast breezy. We’ll stay dry for today, active weather isn’t expected to return until tomorrow evening.

Rainfall will kick off in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas roughly the same time the Superbowl kicks off. A transition to snowfall will occur overnight when temperatures start to decrease to freezing.

Right now I am forecasting a narrow band of snowfall south of I-44 that can bring several inches. I want to stress again, that we expect a narrow stripe of activity rather than widespread coverage across the Ozarks. One location can see a decent snowfall event and only 50 miles up the road people will be waking up without a flake on the ground.

There is still a decent level of uncertainty with this system as temperatures will be near freezing meaning there will be only a short window of opportunity. Additionally, the track of the low can shift and slide between now and then changing the location of the narrow band of snowfall.
