LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A World War II veteran headlined this weekend’s “Legend Among Us” ceremony that honored four Little Rock community leaders.
The ninth annual Arkansas Heritage celebration of Black History Month recognized Billy R. Brooks, Billy Sanders, William Woods Jr. and 101-year-old John Henry Anderson.
Anderson played a key role as a driver in the Red Ball Express, bravely supplying fuel to the US Army on the drive to Berlin.
“Their service has served the entire race, the human race, not just central Arkansas, but their impact has been felt across the nation, and in some cases across the world,” said Jason Irby with the Jason Irby Innovation Foundation
Organizers say the “legends among us” event was created to highlight positive stories from black history… And the men and women who are a part of that history while they are still with us.
