Big Boy locomotive rolls into North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An iconic train rolled throughout central Arkansas this weekend. Union Pacific’s Big Boy #4014 made a stop in North Little Rock as part of its heartland American tour.

The locomotive is one of just 25 built in the 1940s and made several stops during World War II.

Only 8 of the 25 survived and Big Boy is the only one still in operation.

Lots of people were out to catch a glimpse of history. Charles and Scarlett said they came out to Union Pacific for one reason.

“So we can see Big Boy, the largest steam train in America,” they said.

Big boy is the largest steam locomotive in the world, slightly longer than two school buses ended to end.

It will make its way to Texas on Monday and will end its tour in Wyoming in October.
