Little Rock families gather for youth fishing event

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – You may have heard the saying that if you give a man a fish, he’ll have food for days, but in this case one community outreach event is aiming to give back more.

Little Rock advocates and leaders gathered at MacArthur Park Saturday to go fishing with some with families. They say it’s their way of developing positive relationships with youth in the city.

Richard Burton is an Evangelism Director for Southside Church of Christ. He says this was a chance for him and organizers to bond and get to know the ones that matter the most.

“We wanted to make a positive impact on the youth, so I came up with this idea, Parks Of Rec, game of fish and board, we all came together and put it together and it’s turning out to be a beautiful event,” Burton said.

Many people at the event say they’ve never went fishing before, but this was a good first-time experience, and officer Tommy Norman says they’re catching more than fish.
