LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A childcare service that has been operating for three decades sent a letter to parents this week announcing its closure on Dec. 20.
Sarah Carter is one of many parents who send their children to Primrose United Methodist Church Child Care Center in Little Rock. On Monday, she received a letter from the church announcing the center’s closure.
“So, I’m having to interview new daycares this week,” Carter said. “I have an interview this afternoon.”

PUMC Pastor Heath Williams said they have struggled with staff and enrollment numbers since the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve seen in the past couple of years enrollment decrease, [and] high staff turnover,” Williams said.
He added that there are 22 children enrolled with eight staff members, which is not enough to keep the doors open. He also said he understands the timing of the decision is not ideal.
“They have also been told right before the holidays, after Dec. 20, you don’t have this job,” Williams said.
