Arkansas National Guard aids motorists during snowstorm

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — If you drive anywhere up and down I-49 long enough, you will see Arkansas National Guard Humvees monitoring the roads as well and helping stranded motorists after a snowstorm moved through Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley on Jan. 9 and 10.

“This mission is completely for protecting the public and helping them when they’re in need. Mostly what we’ve been doing is getting them out of cold situations and getting them in our Humvee to warm up until assistance arrives or getting them home or to a warm area of applause,” Staff Sgt. Daniel Smith with the 1-142nd Field Artillery Battalion said.

These guys work 12-hour shifts, each which can get a bit exhausting, especially at night…
