UAMS Trauma System ready to help out after mass shooting in Conway

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — In the wake of the mass shooting in Conway, the Arkansas trauma system demonstrated its readiness to respond efficiently through a streamlined communication process.

Dr. Kyle Kalkwarf, director of the trauma program at UAMS, explained how the system operates during such incidents.

“During a normal trauma, we have people that are trauma surgeons as well as residents who are in our facility at all times,” said Dr. Kalkwarf. “So when the trauma comes in, we get a notification and we report to the emergency department, where we care for that trauma.”…
