Rape suspect arrested after Little Rock standoff

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Troopers arrested a man suspected of rape after a standoff in Little Rock.

According to a release from the Arkansas State Police, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force attempted to arrest 39-year-old Gary Powell at a southwest Little Rock apartment on Monday. Authorities said they confirmed Powell was inside the apartment and commanded him to come out.

Powell, instead, did not come out and instead retreated further into the apartment, officials said. After a short period, investigators heard a gunshot from inside the room Powell had retreated into.
