LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — Eighteen students from the Pulaski County Special School District have achieved a remarkable feat: they are now published authors. The young writers, all fourth and fifth graders from Landmark Elementary School, have written and published their own books, much to their delight and pride.
“It was just rewarding in the way that we got to see their faces and see how happy they were and proud they were of their accomplishments,” said a teacher involved in the project. “It also allowed us to show them, you know, you can do anything you want to do.”
The initiative was spearheaded by teacher Johnny Richardson, who brought the idea to the school’s principal. “We needed students to do some more writing. We need them to be able to write for longer periods of time,” Richardson said. “So we thought if we gave them prompts that would lead from one prompt to the next, that might lead them to more interest.”…
