Driver dies in single-vehicle crash on St. Louis street

An 18-year-old man from the Pulaski County area died over the weekend in a single-vehicle crash on St. Louis Street.

Batesville Police Department Capt. Fred Friar stated Tuesday at the Batesville City Council meeting that officers were dispatched to the scene of a car fire near Tai Lee’s restaurant on Sunday, July 6. Friar indicated the driver reportedly passed the police department building before accelerating and hitting a retaining wall, at which point the car caught fire. The driver could not be saved.

Friar commented on the impact of such incidents on emergency personnel. “You can see a thousand of these things on YouTube, but until you experience one, you don’t know how it will affect you,” Friar said…
