LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – After battling a rare and relentless seizure disorder nearly every day of her life, 19-year-old Grace Glasbrenner is finally free. Her parents are calling it a miracle, and so is the doctor who helped make it happen.
Grace, born eight weeks premature but otherwise healthy, began experiencing troubling neurological symptoms at age 3. By the time she was a toddler, she was diagnosed with Mosaic Tetrasomy 5P, an extremely rare genetic disorder that causes severe seizures. So rare, in fact, that only a handful of cases have ever been documented.
“She would just check out,” said her father, Jeff Glasbrenner. “She would stop responding, and her head would drop like someone flipped a switch.”

The seizures quickly grew more frequent and more dangerous—at times, exceeding 100 in a single day. By age 6, Grace was forced to wear a helmet around the clock to prevent injuries from sudden falls.
