LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials said the volume of information from the National Weather Service in Little Rock will decrease in the coming week.
The NWS announced on Friday that it would be shutting down some services beginning Sunday, July 13. The adjustments will be temporary, officials said, as the NWS “is actively identifying and implementing near-term and long-term solutions as we adjust services amid the current staffing changes.”

Dennis Cavnaugh, Warning Coordinator Meteorologist with NWS Little Rock, said changes being made include greater coordination with the Memphis and Tulsa NWS offices to provide “three sets of eyes” on weather potentially impacting Arkansas. He added that Little Rock staffing is in place to meet weather emergencies, including the ability to “surge staffing” by paying overtime.
