ARKADELPHIA — When the summer sun is near its peak, almost every creature heads for cooler temperatures and shade to find a little comfort. For fish, that means heading offshore and finding the deepest cover they can comfortably live. Thousands of offshore fish attractors are available on agfc.com to give you the key to success during the dog days of summer.
Last year, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission staff and volunteers sank fish attractors at more than 270 locations on 29 Arkansas lakes. According to Sean Lusk, Fisheries staff biologist for the AGFC, the number of actual structures placed likely reaches into the thousands.
“The types of structures we place are very diverse,” Lusk said. “It could be a couple of Christmas trees, a half-dozen artificial structures or up to 10 big cedars pulled from the shore of a lake. It really depends upon what’s available and what’s allowed by the owner of the lake. Artificial structures may be made of PVC or other inert materials that resist breaking down but are safe for drinking water, so they don’t cause issues with water quality.”…
