Two named as Arkansas Rural Teacher of the Year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas have named two recipients of this year’s Arkansas Rural Education Association’s Teacher of the Year.

The Arkansas co-op association has sponsored the award since 2004.

The winners were Clair Antoon-Newton, an AP Literature English teacher at El Dorado High School, and Shawna Radcliff, a fifth and sixth-grade math teacher at Corning Middle School. Each was presented with a crystal apple gift card and a check for $1,000 from the co-op association.

Candidates for the award were vetted by the state’s 15 educational cooperatives, which then submit a finalist for each educational cooperative district to the Arkansas Rural Education Association for consideration…
