LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) – The Arkansas Department of Transportation will shut down several interstate off-ramps to make sure everyone is going in the right direction.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, the highway department will close the following off-ramps on Interstate 40 to test its wrong-way detection systems:
- Westbound, Exit 243 (Forrest City Rest Area)
- Westbound, Exit 247
- Westbound, Exit 256
- Westbound, Exit 260
- Eastbound, Exit 265
- Eastbound, Exit 271
- Westbound, Exit 271
The closures will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly on the following dates:
- Tuesday, July 22, to Wednesday, July 23
- Wednesday, July 23, to Thursday, July 24
- Thursday, July 24, to Friday, July 25
Only one ramp will be closed at a time, with plans to complete three to four ramps per night, according to Friday’s news release.
“Wrong-way detection systems include vehicle sensors, closed-circuit television cameras, illuminators, hardware controllers, warning devices, and communications equipment that notify motorists if they are traveling in the wrong direction,” ARDOT said…
