LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – With temperatures soaring into dangerous territory, the Little Rock Zoo is getting creative to keep everyone safe from the sweltering heat, and that includes their full-time residents.
On Friday, as some parts of the natural state are under an extreme heat warning, that’s not stopping families from swinging by the Little Rock Zoo. The Director of the Zoo, Susan Alturi, said they’ve learned a lot of lessons for guests and animals when it comes to the hot temperatures.
“The mister stations have probably been the biggest success for us, I think the mister stations being set up around the zoo have been the biggest hit when it comes to heat,” Altrui said.

Altrui also said they feed a lot of the animals ice treats with snacks frozen inside them to keep the animals cool. She notes they have hydration stations set up for the guests at the zoo. However, the water misters are not only popular with the animals but also the families…
