Sammy’s Bookshelf, a new bookstore in Little Rock, will host its grand opening Aug. 2.
Sammy’s Bookshelf is named after a statue that store owner Lisa Hulett had in her home for years. It’s a sculpture by Dennis Smith called “Girl Reading” that depicts a girl lying on her stomach, reading a book.
“She has been around a lot longer than the bookstore idea,” Hulett said. “She was in my house for a long time and was one of the first big purchases I made for our house.”
Hulett’s children affectionately named the sculpture “Sammy,” and it stuck, she said. The statue now resides on a table in the front of the new bookstore…
