Conway’s safer and cheaper roundabouts inspiring other Arkansas cities to follow

CONWAY, Ark. (KATV) — Conway has become a leader in the state for its use of roundabouts, boasting 36 of them over the past 20 years. City and transportation officials assert that these traffic circles are not only safer but also more cost-effective than traditional intersections.

Ellen Coulter, spokesperson for ARDOT, explained that roundabouts reduce conflict points and encourage slower driving speeds, which has led to improved safety. “When you are going through a roundabout, as opposed to an intersection with a stoplight, there are significantly fewer conflict points, and you’re also driving at slower speeds,” she said.

Notably, Conway has not recorded any fatalities in its roundabouts…
