Grocery prices blur lines between eating in and dining out

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — As grocery prices continue to rise, consumers are finding it increasingly difficult to determine whether it’s cheaper to eat at home or dine out.

Michael Pakko, chief economist at the Arkansas Economic Development Institute, said that while it is generally still more economical to eat at home, the price gap is narrowing. “It’s kind of a complicated outlook going forward, but we’re looking at a trend rate of inflation in both food at home and out at restaurants of about 3% per year right now.”

Lillian Davenport, a consumer, shared her experience, saying, “I have noticed it. I just recently retired, so I’m learning to live on less per month.”…
