LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — He is known as a dad, husband and pastor, but most importantly as Papa to his grandchildren. Joy and faith are the two things that kept Marcus McDonald grounded throughout his cancer journey.
Fifteen months ago, McDonald’s news director noticed his neck was swollen after seeing his necklace pressed into his skin. That was the first sign that something was wrong. McDonald, who admits he was stubborn, didn’t want to get it checked until his niece convinced him to go to the emergency room. Once there, doctors ran tests and biopsies that led to his diagnosis.
“You have small cell lung cancer, the most dangerous type,” McDonald said. “And I said, ‘Ok.’”
