MENA, Ark. (KSLA) – SWEPCO announced Monday, Aug. 4 that it’s about to start installing smart meters at homes in Arkansas.
Officials with SWEPCO say smart meters give customers more control over how much power they’re using. The meters use secure wireless technology to give timely, accurate meter reading data, which customers can use to better understand their usage. The new meters also give real-time info to SWEPCO about outages so crews can respond faster when the power goes out.
Around 126,000 customers in Mena are getting their smart meters installed now, but SWEPCO says more people in their service area will be getting them soon. Installation efforts in Arkansas will continue throughout 2025 and potentially into 2026, officials say…
