Arkansas launches “Drive Aware” campaign to protect walkers, cyclists

The Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office has launched its “Drive Aware” campaign, running until August 24, to remind motorists to watch for pedestrians and bicyclists as the school year begins.

Officials note that pedestrian fatalities in Arkansas hit a ten-year high in 2020 with 81 deaths, and though they decreased slightly to 74 in 2023, the numbers remain troubling.

Bicyclist fatalities nearly doubled last year with eleven deaths, and urban areas continue to pose the greatest risks, accounting for the majority of both pedestrian and cyclist fatalities…
