Officials remind motorists to drive aware and save lives

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT/Edited News Release) – With the start of the school year well underway, the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office wants to remind motorists to be more aware of pedestrians and bicyclists on our roadways all across Arkansas.

To help achieve this goal, the “Drive Aware” campaign will run from Aug. 18 through Aug. 24. This initiative aims to raise awareness surrounding road safety for our most vulnerable road users.

According to recent data, pedestrian fatalities in Arkansas reached a 10-year high in 2020, with 81 tragic deaths. However, in 2023, although there was a 9% decrease in pedestrian fatalities, they continued to remain high at 74 fatalities…
