Retired Army Col. Marcus Jones was elected chair of the Democratic Party of Arkansas during the state committee meeting Saturday. Jones ran against vice chair Jannie Cotton, who served as interim chair following the resignation of Grant Tennille in July.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve,” he said. “I appreciate the opportunity not just to work with our parties and our auxiliaries, but our incredible legislators who are carrying our Democratic values and that Democratic agenda forward every day. You talk about the folks in the fight; they’re the ones doing it, and so I appreciate this chance more than you can imagine.”
Maritza Munich, who presented his nomination, said Jones helped her revive the Hispanic caucus after he did so for the veterans and military families caucus.
“The man has spent about three decades fighting for us, for this country, for you and me and the next generations to come,” she said. “Now he wants to fight for us in the Democratic party, and he brings to that fight not just his experience leading troops, making sure that the missions are successful, that he protects the troops in doing that, but he does it with the training of someone who knows how to get organized, from someone who knows that good intentions do not necessarily deliver success, that you need to know what your objective is.”…
