Arkansans unite in grief and hope at ‘Bridge the Gap’ Event, honoring lives lost to opioids

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The lives of 7,500 Arkansans lost to the opioid epidemic at the Bridge the Gap event on Saturday tell a story, while the hundreds of people attending the event share their own.

“She was someone that we called family,” Wes Kammeyer said. “And she just passed from fentanyl overdose on the 14th of August. So, eight days ago.”

One week after losing someone to fentanyl, Wes and Alicia Kammeyer find themselves around others who have experienced that same hurt.

“My cousin died of fentanyl, so I know how it is,” Samuel Brunhan said. “And I used to be real deep in that addiction. And I’m about 30 days sober now.”…
