“Chillin” in the Ozarks Tuesday morning

It’s late August, but the morning came in with the feel of an early October morning.

Readings dipped into the 40s and 50s, marking the coolest morning since late May. Salem, MO, registered one of coolest reported lows, at 44°. Areas as close as Lebanon got into the upper 40s.

The morning chill settled across Southwest Missouri and Northern Arkansas, although cloud cover kept lows warmer south of the state line.

Springfield recorded a low of 52°, well outside of record-setting territory, with a record low for the date at 46° set in 1962. But, this is also nearly 15° below normal and only a week after a high of 99°!

It’s a sign of the times as we enter that transition period into fall. The rest of the month will continue to feature an early fall feel with lows and highs running below normal…
