For the 23rd year, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture is providing trees to schools across the state to increase green space and reduce exposure to the sun.
Applications are being accepted for the Shade Trees on Playgrounds program. Urban and Community Forestry Coordinator Kristine Kimbro said they hope the schools incorporate lessons about trees into their classwork.
“Teaching students about the benefits of trees, and ways to limit their exposure to the sun in their classrooms, and we are hoping that they will provide that information cross-curricularly,” said Kimbro. “Maybe an art project related to leaves, and then a math project that talks about multiplying the benefits.”…
