Wednesday’s Child: Meet Savannah, a 17-year-old who hopes for a loving family that will support her future

Where we come from is so important. Our past makes up who we are. However, for kids in foster care, it can be difficult to get answers to the questions about their past that they desperately seek.

This week’s Wednesday’s Child is focused on her future and who she wants to be, with the help of her forever family.

Every kid looks forward to their birthday.  Having spent the last three in foster care, 17-year-old Savannah’s wish remains the same.“If I had one wish it would be for a perfect Mexican family out there to take me in and love me for who I am, Savannah said.Savannah’s heritage is extremely important to her.“I’m Cuban, Mexican, and White. I don’t have a big percentage of Mexican, (but) I do identify and Iove the culture and I want to be raised in it,” Savannah said.Where she comes from is just as important as where she wants to go, into the arms of a loving family.“I guess one of the reasons why I want to be adopted is because I hate being alone,” Savannah said.It has been a bumpy road for Savannah who was placed in foster care in 2023. It’s an experience she wishes on no child.“Terrible,” Savannah said. “I don’t know how to explain it. It’s just terrible. It hurts.”Adoption Supervisor Holli Harrington said Savannah has always had to rely on herself, so having a family will allow her to just be a kid again.“It’s hard when you don’t have anyone besides DHS to support you on those tough days and uplift you, so just having someone there, outside of DHS, is just going to be best for her and give her that extra mile, that extra push to go above and beyond,” Harrington said…
