Survivor shares story of recovery amid Domestic Violence Awareness Month

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — For Allison Magann, October carries a weight many cannot imagine. The month marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and for her it is more than purple ribbons and social media posts. It is a reminder of the violence she survived, the advocacy she built, and now, the battle she faces against stage four cancer.

Magann founded Hope for Hope in December 2023, a nonprofit created to stand beside victims of abuse. As a survivor herself, she knew firsthand the importance of having someone in their corner.

“I just saw all those gaps and I wanted to be a person in their corner,” Magann said. “I wanted to be like—no, I’ve got you. I understand what you’ve been through. I’ve been through it.”
